4. Play in Portland, Stay at the Francis Hotel
Portland is always high on the list of best weekend getaways in Maine because there’s just so much to do and see, and I had the pleasure of having my own little Portland getaway not too long ago with my kiddo.
We stayed at the Francis, and I especially appreciated the West End location. It was nice to be outside of the more touristy areas, but still within easy walking distance to downtown and Old Port. I did it with a stroller and it took less than twenty minutes!
The Francis is a boutique hotel and doesn’t come across as a super kid friendly hotel when you’re first checking it out, but I’ll tell you that they were wonderful with my toddler in tow.
In fact, they even included these cards with recommendations for family friendly dining and activities in Portland, how cool is that?
Portland is full of fun stuff to see and do, and if you’re on a family vacation with young kids, I highly recommend a visit to the Children’s Museum!
Of course, you should definitely add a visit to the Portland Head Light to your itinerary. When in coastal Maine…
Oh, and grab at least one meal at Hot Suppa, I fell in love so hard with their delicious breakfast options!
Biscuits and gravy with a maple latte, anyone?

Romantic Weekend Getaways in Maine
10. Go sailing on a traditional schooner
Want to take an awesome trip together that is something unique and different? Why not go sailing on a classic schooner?
We had this experience sailing on the J & E Riggin and it was amazing. You spend several days exploring the beautiful Maine coast near Rockland, helping with the sails, enjoying gourmet food, and generally just relaxing. It’s a wonderful trip.
Now, it’s definitely not your standard romantic trip. Sleeping below decks is more ‘cozy’ than romantic, and you’ll be sailing with a dozen or so other guests, so this type of trip won’t allow for much alone time.
But I can promise that you will spend quality time together and have a terrific adventure that bonds you in a new way.

11. Find luxury at The Cliff House Resort and Spa in York, Maine
In terms of Maine getaways for couples looking for luxury, the award winning Cliff House Maine reigns supreme! This is truly the classic Maine experience, with luxurious, comfortable rooms overlooking the Atlantic Ocean on picturesque Cape Neddick.
Here posh meets cozy. The Cliff House was refurbished a few years ago and now boasts an infinity pool, a 9,000 square-foot spa, both indoor and outdoor pools – including an adults only infinity pool overlooking the ocean – and lots more. This coastal Maine hotel offers incredible views!

12. Stay in style at Blind Tiger Guest House in Portland ME
Blind Tiger Guest House is one of the best boutique hotels in Maine, and it’s perfect for a couples vacation!
Blind Tiger has two phenomenal locations in Portland, Maine. The Carleton Street property is a quiet residential neighborhood within walking distance of downtown Portland, and Danforth Street is located within easy walking distance to Old Port and awesome restaurants and shopping.
These are gorgeous historic properties that have been meticulously restored, resulting in an elevated B&B experience with boutique hotel offerings that couples rave about. The decor is especially fantastic.
Blind Tiger is one of the best choices for romantic places to stay in Maine.

13. Stay by the Sea at York Harbor Inn in York, Maine
Perhaps a classic bed & breakfast is more your style? There are plenty of romantic Maine getaways that offer this, but I say you can’t go wrong booking a charming inn by the sea!
One of our favorite hotels to recommend is the York Harbor Inn, which is right on the southern coast of Maine and is absolutely beautiful.
This is a quiet area where you can get away from it all and enjoy nature. We especially suggest renting the tower room, which offers a private balcony overlooking the water. The views are gorgeous and the inn has terrific food.
Combine that with exploring the great area of York, Maine, and you’ve got the makings of an ideal trip.
I recently enjoyed Stonewall Kitchen Cafe and let me just say, it’s not just a fantastic lunch spot, but the perfect Maine souvenir shop for those of us who love to putter around in the kitchen.

14. Hide Away at Hartstone Inn & Hideaway in Camden
There’s nothing like a sweet Victorian B&B to make for a great romantic getaway. The Hartstone Inn & Hideaway is located in a lovely part of Maine: Camden.
Although you’ll never need to leave your classic-styled room—or even the hotel itself with its restaurant, spa, and cozy common areas—you are within easy reach of the Camden and Rockland areas, so there is plenty to keep you busy.
Reviewers talk about the stunning rooms and the amazing food, among other wonderful amenities. Why not check it out yourself?

15. Retreat to the Wolf Cove Inn in Poland, Maine
When it comes to the romantic getaways Maine has to offer, Wolf Cove Inn is a fabulous choice. This rustic spot offers serene intimacy in the magical Maine outdoors.
You don’t have to be on the coast to have a great Maine getaway!
Wolf Cove Inn is situated on Tripp Lake, a stunning and romantic setting. The lake provides plenty of activity options including kayaking, paddling, and relaxing on the private beach. With only 11 guest rooms at this lakeside bed & breakfast, you’ll have plenty of privacy for you and your partner.
Delicious food and absolutely perfect rooms round out the experience (seriously, check out the pictures). With lake views, rooms boasting fireplaces and/or jacuzzi tubs, and a peaceful setting, this is one place you definitely have to check out.
I think this might even rank among the best romantic getaways in the United States!
