Dreaming of a couples trip to beautiful Maine? We don’t blame you. This is a gorgeous state with lots of romance. To help make your travel planning easy as can be, we’ve compiled 6 of our favorite romantic getaways in Maine.
Whether you’re in the mood for rugged adventure in the wilderness or pampering in luxury, we’ve got an option you and your significant other are sure to love.
Go sailing on a traditional schooner
Want to take an awesome trip together that is something unique and different? Why not go sailing on a classic schooner?
We had this experience sailing on the J & E Riggin and it was amazing. You spend several days exploring the beautiful Maine coast near Rockland, helping with the sails, enjoying gourmet food, and generally just relaxing. It’s a wonderful trip.
Now, it’s definitely not your standard romantic trip. Sleeping below decks is more ‘cozy’ than romantic, and you’ll be sailing with a dozen or so other guests, so this type of trip won’t allow for much alone time.
But I can promise that you will spend quality time together and have a terrific adventure that bonds you in a new way. Read all about what it’s like to sail on a Maine Windjammer here. Book stay at the York Harbor Inn
Perhaps a classic bed & breakfast is more your style? There are plenty of romantic Maine getaways that offer this. One of our favorite hotels to recommend is the York Harbor Inn, which is right on the southern coast of Maine and is absolutely beautiful.
This is a quiet area where you can get away from it all and enjoy nature. We especially suggest renting the tower room, which offers a private balcony overlooking the water. The views are gorgeous and the inn has terrific food.
Combine that with the great area of York, Maine, and you’ve got the makings of an ideal trip.

Retreat to the Wolf Cove Inn
When it comes to the romantic getaways Maine has to offer, Wolf Cove Inn is a fabulous choice. This rustic spot offers serene intimacy in the magical Maine outdoors.
You don’t have to be on the coast to have a great Maine getaway. Wolf Cove Inn is situated on Tripp Lake a stunning and romantic setting. The lake provides plenty of activity options including kayaking, paddling, and relaxing on the private beach. With only 11 guest rooms at this lakeside bed & breakfast, you’ll have plenty of privacy for you and your partner.
Delicious food and absolutely perfect rooms round out the experience (seriously, check out the pictures). With lake views, rooms boasting fireplaces and/or jacuzzi tubs, and a peaceful setting, this is one place you definitely have to check out.

Camp under the stars in Acadia National Park
One of the most stunning regions of Maine is found among the mountains and cliffs of Acadia National Park. The nearby town of Bar Harbor is full of New England charm and offers tons of options for a romantic B&B stay (check out the Bar Harbor Inn!)
But for those who want to experience Acadia at its best, camping is a great option. Here are incredible views of the night sky and a feeling of true wilderness. Camping is very popular in many campgrounds around the island, so grab your tent, grab your sweetheart, and have an amazing Maine adventure.

Find luxury at The Cliff House Resort and Spa
In terms of Maine getaways for couples looking for luxury, the Cliff House reigns supreme! This is truly the classic Maine experience, with luxurious, comfortable rooms overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
Here posh meets cozy. The Cliff House was refurbished a few years ago and now boasts an infinity pool, a 9,000 square-foot spa, both indoor and outdoor pools, and lots more. Plus, it has arguably one of the best views of a coastal hotel in Maine.

Hartstone Inn & Hideaway
There’s nothing like a sweet Victorian B&B to make for a great romantic getaway. The Hartstone Inn & Hideaway is located in a lovely part of Maine: Camden.
Although you’ll never need to leave your classic-styled room—or even the hotel itself with its restaurant, spa, and cozy common areas—you are within easy reach of the Camden and Rockland areas, so there is plenty to keep you busy.
Reviewers talk about the stunning rooms and the amazing food, among other wonderful amenities. Why not check it out yourself?

Go Glamping in style near Kennebunkport
Last on our list of Maine romantic getaways is a glamping spot! In the town of Kennebunkport (a wonderful destination in its own right) is an awesome campground that we’ve stayed at. This is Sandy Pines Campground and it boasts dozens of incredible glamping options, including luxury tents, camp cottages, and more.
Sit out by your private campfire before retiring to a beautifully-decorated private spot under the stars.
You might think of camping as a rustic experience, but glamping turns it up a notch! Plus, you’re close to all of Kennebunkport’s activities including chilled-out beaches and gourmet restaurants. Its really the best of both worlds when you stay at Sandy Pines, and I promise that glamping is incredibly romantic.
