Where to Find the Best Breakfast in Boston

The Friendly Toast

If you’re looking for a laid-back, reliable breakfast place in Boston, check out The Friendly Toast! I’ve enjoyed delicious breakfast meals at other Friendly Toast locations throughout New England, but on my most recent visit to Boston, I made it to the Friendly Toast location in Back Bay.

This is a terrific breakfast spot for families visiting Boston. It’s noisy, colorful, and very kid-friendly! Not only will every member of your family enjoy a big, tasty breakfast, adults can indulge in some brunch cocktails! I recommend the This is How We Brew It flight which features the 4 boozy coffees on their menu.

As for breakfast itself, you’ll find all the usual breakfast suspects at The Friendly Toast, in addition to specialty offerings like their Doughnut Stop Believin’ breakfast sandwich. This breakfast sandwich is two French toasted donuts that are filled with scrambled eggs, chipotle maple sour cream, cheddar cheese and sausage, then topped with powdered sugar and a side of strawberry habanero jam… how crazy good does that sound?

I had an awesome breakfast burrito (definitely add the chorizo, y’all) and ate every bite. But the standout item you have to eat at the Friendly Toast are the Jumbo Cheddar Tater Tots. Holy moly. There are no words for how much I loved them. I would eat them every day if I could.

Trident Booksellers & Cafe

A plate of French toast filled with melting cheese, accompanied by a side of cappuccinos and home fries, served at a popular Boston breakfast spot.

Breakfast is served all day at Trident Booksellers & Cafe in Back Bay. As a lover of both books and breakfast, I had to put this restaurant on my Boston itinerary.

My husband, son, and I loved the breakfast we had at Trident. Excellent pancakes, an extraordinary Monte Cristo sandwich (I substituted sausage for the typical ham), and superb lattes. I had the seasonal French toast latte which combined my two favorite flavors: maple and vanilla. Truly delightful.

Theo’s Cozy Corner Restaurant

If it’s a local neighborhood feel you want during your Boston breakfast, check out Theo’s Cozy Corner Restaurant in the North End. Unassuming on the outside and within, this place lets its phenomenal breakfast foods speak for themselves! Breakfast at Theo’s includes delicious American breakfast staples like light, fluffy pancakes and hearty egg and potatoes meals, but the thing that will strike you most at Theo’s is the quality that is served up at such an affordable price!

Eating out in Boston can be expensive, so finding an affordable breakfast place can be like a dream come true! Especially one like Theo’s Cozy Corner Restaurant that serves such quality meals in a great hometown atmosphere; be prepared to wait a few minutes to be sat, lines are often out the door. Important note: Theo’s is cash-only still as of 2023.

City Table

So many great Boston breakfast options!

Casual, yet sophisticated, City Table is located in the Back Bay Boston neighborhood at the lovely Lenox Hotel. Breakfast options include classics like omelets, french toast, pancakes, and more, but the real kicker at City Table is the fantastic weekend brunch!

You’ll find inventive brunch offerings like their Maplebrook Farms Burrata Salad featuring prosciutto, toasted pistachio, fresh melon, and micro basil, available Saturdays and Sundays from 7am-3pm and 6:30am to 3pm, respectively. Another perk of brunch at City Table? The full bar!

Lulu Green

Looking for a great plant-based breakfast in Boston? Look no further than Lulu Green, one of Boston’s best Vegan restaurants for breakfast and more! You’ll find the heavenly scent of their baked goods like their Lemon Blueberry Muffin and Cinnamon Bun with Orange Blossom Glaze greets you as you walk in the door, and if it’s something a little heartier you’re in the mood for, consider ordering their signature Breakfast Sandwich with Arugula, Heirloom Tomato and Scrambled JUST Egg and Cheddar Cheese on Buttery Organic Sourdough Bread– yum!

Lulu Green also offers fresh fruit smoothies, cold-pressed juices, and a full coffee bar selection with hits like their Black Rose Latte featuring Espresso with hints of rose water, orange essence, pistachio, black pepper, and cinnamon. Pro Tip: their weekend brunch menu offers even more Vegan breakfast options to love, so if you get the chance to check it out, definitely do!

The Clink

Located in the gorgeous Boston boutique hotel, The Liberty, The Clink is a delightful place to go for breakfast in Boston! Revived and reimagined from its former life as the Charles Street Jail, today this trendy boutique hotel pays homage to its storied past with fun touches like visible jail bars and old photos that remind you that you are in a historically significant Boston building while you enjoy your Brioche French Toast with caramelized peaches and candied pecans, finished with honey whipped mascarpone.

Brunch at The Clink offers even more scrumptious options, but one of the most raved about offerings at The Clink is their Cold Pressed Holistic Juice featuring a blend of elderberry, blood orange, turmeric, ginger, and black pepper. If it’s less of a fresh juice kinda day and more of a cocktail o’clock situation, The Clink’s full bar can take care of that, too. If it’s a trendy brunch in Boston you’re after, The Clink fits the bill!

Not only are there several locations around Boston (almost 20 in the city limits and surrounding areas!), but the menu is full of interesting and delicious breakfast choices that are served all day, like their Halloumi Sunny-Side Breakfast Sandwich made with halloumi cheese, sauteed spinach, tomato, and a sunny-side up egg on a fresh baked challah roll.

With locations in Fenway, Back Bay, Beacon Hill, South Boston, Charlestown, and more, Tatte is a deliciously convenient breakfast place in Boston!

Beehive Restaurant

While the Beehive Restaurant and Bar in South End Boston might not be a traditional breakfast choice, or even offer breakfast Monday through Friday, we had to include it as a weekend brunch spot because their Sunday Music Brunch is definitely something to check out if you’re able!

Live music runs from 10am-2pm and the brunch menu has delicious offerings like Eggs Benedict and Corned Beef Hash so you can sip your Mimosa and enjoy a delectable meal while you listen to some of the top Boston bands play; if you’re looking for a cool place to have Sunday brunch in Boston, look no more because you’ve found it!

Parker’s Restaurant

Not just another hotel restaurant, Parker’s Restaurant is located at the historic Omni Parker House, one of the most legendary Boston hotels since 1855, and the restaurant has earned its own exceptional reputation for culinary greatness as both the restaurant that launched the career of the great Emeril Lagasse and also as the birthplace of the Boston Cream Pie, which is absolutely available on the breakfast menu at Parker’s.

Now, there is a dress code at this fine dining restaurant, so don’t show up in your tank top and shorts because you’ll be turned away. However! Dress up a little and you’ll be rewarded with expertly prepared breakfast staples like Eggs Benedict, omelets, french toast, pancakes, and more. Don’t forget to order the Boston Cream Pie!

The Paramount

The Paramount has been a long-standing favorite of Beacon Hill since it first opened in 1937, and now it has expanded to South Boston, as well, so you have two options for where to go for Boston breakfast at The Paramount! There are slightly different offerings at each restaurant, but rest assured that you will find high-quality, well-prepared breakfast dishes at both locations.

Available at both the historic Beacon Hill Paramount and the new Southie location, the indulgently rich Caramel and Banana French Toast is a major crowd favorite, served with pure Vermont Maple syrup. The Paramount is a classic breakfast spot in Boston that always delivers!

South Street Diner

Looking for a classic Boston diner that serves breakfast all day? South Street Diner is where it’s at, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week since 1947. You’ll see this Leather District staple from a distance because it’s the diner with the giant coffee cup on its roof!

Classic diner breakfast foods like pancakes, french toast, and eggs prepared in aaaaall the ways are available on the South Street Diner’s menu, including some great New England breakfast options like Lobster Eggs Benedict and Homemade Crab Cake Eggs Benedict. South Street Diner is the place to go for breakfast any time of day in Boston!

Hopefully, you’ll find something on this Boston breakfast restaurants list that is the right fit for what you’re looking for, but in a foodie city like Boston, there are always plenty of great breakfast restaurant options!
